LUMBER & BUILDING MATERIALS
Lockport, LA
Lockport grew where Bayou Lafourche meets the Company Canal, a location that made
the town a natural center for boatbuilding, commerce, and travel through the lower bayou.
Generations of shipbuilders, craftsmen, fishermen, and families built their lives around
the water, while LA 1 and Highway 308 kept the community connected by road.
That working history still shows in the homes, shops, boats, docks, and family property
that line the area. Frost Lumber is a direct trip north to Thibodaux, carrying lumber,
roofing, siding, hardware, paint supplies, and the building materials needed for repairs,
additions, exterior work, and projects that have to hold up in South Louisiana.
Lockport has always been a town of skilled hands and practical work. Whether the job
is maintaining an older home, repairing storm damage, building something new, or
keeping a camp or workshop in shape, Frost offers the materials and
product knowledge to get it done right.
A Lil’ Lagniappe...
This 1904 photograph shows the Mathews Band of Lockport, an all-brass ensemble
accompanied by snare and bass drums. The musicians are pictured with both slide
and valve trombones, along with cornets, horns, and other brass instruments typical
of community bands at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Bands like this were an important part of local life. Before recorded music became
common, community musicians provided the soundtrack for parades, dances,
church gatherings, civic events, and celebrations. The Mathews Band reflects a
Lockport history shaped not only by boats and industry, but also by the Black musicians
whose talent helped define the social and cultural life of the town.
More than a century later, the photograph preserves a moment when music
brought people together and local musicians carried Lockport’s sound
wherever the community gathered.
Before Lockport made its name building boats, its musicians were already making themselves heard.
