Golden Meadow, LA

Golden Meadow grew along Bayou Lafourche as a working town, first through fishing

and seafood, then through oilfield drilling and marine service. LA 1 became the road

through town, but the bayou remained just as important, carrying shrimp boats, oyster

 luggers, crew boats, barges, and the people whose livelihoods depended on the water. 

That mix of homes, boats, businesses, and working property still shapes what gets built

and repaired here. Frost Lumber is straight up Highway 1 in Thibodaux, with

umber, hardware, roofing, siding, paint supplies, and the practical materials needed

for storm repairs, exterior upkeep, camps, docks, additions, and everyday projects.

Golden Meadow has always known how to adapt without losing its identity. The work may

have shifted from seafood packing to oilfield service and offshore support, but the need

for dependable materials and people who know what they sell has never gone away. 



A Lil’ Lagniappe...

This late-1930s photograph shows Golden Meadow High School standing across

Bayou Lafourche, with an overturned chaland in the foreground and a drilling derrick

rising behind the school. Completed in 1931, the Classical Revival building was a striking

landmark among the smaller cottages and businesses that lined the bayou.

The derrick tells just as much of the story as the school. Oil had been discovered in nearby

Leeville in 1931 and in Golden Meadow in 1938. Within a few years, drilling and oilfield service

were reshaping the local economy alongside the fishing and seafood trades that had

already defined the town for generations.

The photograph captures Golden Meadow at a turning point, with education, fishing,

road travel, and oilfield growth all visible in one frame. The town was changing quickly,

but Bayou Lafourche still ran through the center of everything.

In Golden Meadow, the bayou carried the past while the derricks pointed toward what came next.
