BUILDING MATERIALS

Labadieville, LA

Labadieville grew along Bayou Lafourche, where the waterway once served as the

community’s main road. Homes, farms, churches, and businesses developed close to the

bayou, creating the long, narrow pattern of settlement still visible throughout the area today.

The town may be small, but maintaining property here takes the same steady supply

of lumber, roofing, siding, hardware, paint supplies, windows, doors, and building

materials as anywhere else in South Louisiana. Frost Lumber is only a short trip down

Bayou Lafourche, with knowledgeable people who can help customers find the right

material instead of simply pointing toward an aisle.

Whether the job involves an older home, family property, a business, or something newly

built, Labadieville customers can bring their questions, measurements, and material

lists to a lumberyard that has served this part of Louisiana since 1882.

A Lil’ Lagniappe...

Catholic worship in Labadieville dates to at least 1842, when Father Charles Menard began visiting

the community during his missionary travels along Bayou Lafourche. The first chapel was

blessed in 1848, and St. Philomena became an independent parish in 1855.

The present church was built in 1888. Its pointed arches, tall tower, tracery, and stained glass

gave the small bayou community a landmark that could be seen from a distance. The church and

neighboring rectory were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

More than a century later, St. Philomena still stands near Bayou Lafourche, carrying

forward a story that began when priests traveled between communities by water.

Labadieville may be small, but it never built its history that way.
