In 1882 the following things were happening. The first telephone arrived in Thibodaux. The steamboat Louisiana was making regular stops in Thibodaux. The Badeaux bucket brigade was fighting fires and the Thibodaux Bridge company operated the few bridges that crossed Bayou Lafourche. Also Bayou Lafourche was higher than it it has ever been, and flooding in the area has caused some very fine crops as reported in the Sentinel, the local newspaper.

Outside the town limits Jessie James the notorious outlaw and train robber was finally shot to death by one of his pals named Ford. Grover Cleveland was president of the United States. The original Louisiana Lottery was being played by the citizens of our state. Future president Franklin Roosevelt was born and in New York City steam heat was first distributed in buildings in Manhattan.

The biggest news of 1882 was that Frost Lumber was established. For over 120 years we have served customers in the Thibodaux area. The founder H.W.Frost started the business as a supply source for cypress lumber which was grown locally in this immediate area.

When Frost Lumber was founded it was strictly a "lumber yard", handling only lumber and wood shingles. Upon the death of H.W. Frost in 1912 the company was taken over by his son Allen Frost who expanded the business into other lines such as hardware, paint, masonry products, and mill work.

Allen Frost retired in 1945 an turned the business over to his son H.C. Frost who was the president for 40 years.

Frost Lumber is presently being operated by H.C.'s son Cambron and his grandchildren Alison and Matthew who are the fourth and fifth generation to be involved in the business.

Since our beginning over 120 years ago the Frost Lumber has always taken interest in their customers. We have always listened to our customers so that we could better serve them.
